History of NWW

Founded in 1972, the Newton-Wellesley-Weston Committee for Community Living, Inc. (NWW) has a solid history of providing quality residential and social work services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

NWW is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation guided by an elected Board of Directors.  This dedicated group is made up of families of individuals with developmental disabilities, individuals with developmental disabilities receiving services from NWW and interested citizens who have come to know and support the mission of NWW.

In 1974 NWW opened one of the first group residences in Massachusetts to support people with disabilities in a community home versus large, state institutions.  Thoughtfully and intentionally NWW has grown to meet the varied and changing needs of those we serve.  Today, NWW provides residential services in 6 homes to adults with varying levels of independent living skills.  In addition, 15 more individuals living in apartments or local nursing homes receive varied amounts of support services from NWW.

NWW has augmented these core services with unique and creative opportunities designed to enable the community, as a whole, to appreciate and value the differences and diversity within our neighborhoods and community.  Some of the options include various volunteer opportunities, social clubs, recreational and cultural events.

NWW services and activities are under the direction of the Executive Director working with a professional and experienced staff.  Additionally, a large number of volunteers, recruited from high schools, colleges and other organizations assists with many NWW projects.  Newsline, the agency’s semi-annual publication keeps friends and supporters up to date on the activities, programs and needs of NWW.
