NWW opened its first group home in 1974. It currently operates six group homes in Newton and Wellesley, Massachusetts. Two to seven residents live in each home, and five of the homes are staffed 24-hours-a-day. The staff assists the residents with daily living at the home and with getting to appointments and enjoyable recreational activities in the community. Each resident also participates in a day program, works in a supported setting or competitive job, or enjoys retirement activities.
NWW's group homes are located in the Newton villages of Newton Corner, Waban, West Newton and Newton Centre, and in Wellesley Square.
NWW worked closely with Citizens for Affordable Housing in Newton Development Organization, Inc. (CAN-DO) to establish a group home in West Newton for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. CAN-DO developed the affordable housing, and NWW provides the staffing.
