Through the Independent Living program NWW supports
individuals with
developmental disabilities who live in their own apartment or in other
non-supervised living arrangements.
For example, NWW assisted two men in purchasing their own home. They currently receive
ten to fifteen hours of support services from NWW
staff on a weekly basis. Supports NWW can provide include emergency
notification procedures, money management, teaching of daily living
skills, and medical case management.
A primary purpose of the Independent Living program is to support
individuals with disabilities to deal successfully with life's lows and
highs. From
thoughtful analysis to supportive implementation strategies, NWW's staff
assist individuals in making their way through life as smoothly and safely as
possible.
The number of support hours a person receives depends on
his or her needs. The
Independent Living program can provide up to 15 hours of service per
week. Additional services may include house cleaning, food
shopping, making transportation arrangements and in-home personal care.
