NWW’s professional staff provides assistance to individuals and families in finding resources to meet their needs and in planning for the future.  The staff include a LICSW, special education and direct care professionals and Masters level student social workers.  Funding for these services is provided by a grant from the City of Newton Community Development Block Grant program, fundraising and fees for service.  Through NWW’s Family Support program the agency staff is able to share their years of experience in the field of Development Disabilities with individuals and families.

NWW’s Social Work/Family Support program also offers graduate field placements for MSW students and undergraduate internships.  The agency has been a field placement site for Boston College, Boston University, Simmons and Salem State schools of social work.  The agency has also been involved with students attending Lasell College in Newton and Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Assessments and Evaluations

For individuals seeking support services NWW has in place an Intake and Assessment process which helps to determine the level of supports an individual will need either in a residential or independent living situation.  A plan of service is developed based on the assessment to support the individual in maximizing his or her independent living skills and in participating fully in the community.
